PoJK Refugee Front protests, seeks justice

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir PoJK Refugee Front today held a protest against Provincial Rehabilitation Officer Jammu and Nodal Officer Additional Jammu for non-implementation of the financial package sanctioned by Government of India.
A large number of refugees including women activists under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir PoJK Refugee Front-1947, 65 and 71 assembled at Press Club and started protest in support of their long pending demands. Racchpal Singh Chib, President of the Front, was leading the protest.
The protesters shouted slogans against government alleging that it has failed to mitigate the sufferings of thousands of refugee families struggling for their rights for the last over six decades. They demanded their final settlement package being sanctioned by the Government of India.
Protesters also raised voice against the rebuttal to the unnecessary hue and cry being raised by the Valley based separatist leaders against the Joint Parliamentary Committee’s recommendation in favour of de-freezing of eight Assembly seats for PoJK Displaced Persons of 1947 and Chhamb DPs of 1965 and 1971.

Chib said that on recommendation of National Human Rights Commission, the Government of India conveyed approval for the grant of rehabilitation relief to the uprooted families from PoJK but the same was not provided to the refugees.
“The previous PRO, Jammu, A.M Wani disbursed crores of rupees against only one of the several components of the package without any public notification (Mandatory) which smacks of a deep rooted conspiracy of the previous State Government of NC-Congress denying benefits of the financial relief/assistance sanctioned by the Government of India,” he said adding that this paved the way to corruption and loot of the PoJK DPs relief.

“The front has raised the issue at various levels including Parliamentary Standing Committee but the Additional Commissioner Jammu and PRO Jammu have created barriers in the efforts made by the front and not allowed the case to move forward,” he alleged.
“Left with no choice the front has resolved to file Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir,” he informed.

He appealed to Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman of the newly constituted Refugee Committee, Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh to order an inquiry into the whole episode.
The front will organise a Dharna on 20th June, 2015 at Press Club Jammu to mark the Refugee Day, he said.
